Traffic Alert: Old Canton Road & Crane Blvd.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- The City of Jackson Department of Public Works has closed Old Canton Road at Crane Blvd for emergency sewer repair. The repairs are expected to take two weeks.

If you travel Old Canton Road between State Street and Meadowbrook Road, this will probably affect you.

Motorists are urged to observe all traffic control devices, and detour signs have been posted.

Mississippi relief agencies on standby for OK recovery

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- For relief agencies and groups across the state, the tornado that ripped through Oklahoma has put them on notice.

"All the fuel tanks are topped off. The trucks are loaded and when and if we get the call, we'll be prepared to go in a matter of hours," said William Perkins with the Mississippi Baptist Convention.

Perkins says he does expect that call to happen given the amount of damage and expected recovery time.

Jackson police have released the identity of the man found dead in a west Jackson house Monday morning.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Jackson police have released the identity of the man found dead in a west Jackson house Monday morning.

According to Officer Colendula Green with JPD, R.B. Ervin was found shot in the head at a residence at 1133 Arbor Vista Boulevard. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

Green says police received a call about an abandoned vehicle on Denver Street around 11 a.m. The tag was traced to the Arbor Vista Boulevard residence, and relatives explained to police they had been trying to locate the individual.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Apparently Jackson Public School parents are pleased with the district's customer service.

The Capital City's school district received favorable grades for its customer service in a recent survey.

More than 2,000 parents returned the survey, which went home with all JPS students in December. The survey closed in March.

According to JPS's website, the school district has more than 30,000 students.

Many gardeners try to give their landscape the feel of an informal cottage garden. This garden concept has a loose, flowing feel, kind of like you just let plants grow wherever they happen to pop up in the landscape.

I had a professor way back in college who had a unique cottage garden planting method: He would walk through the landscape and just toss plants over his shoulder. We planted them where they landed. And you know what? His gardens looked awfully good.

Jackson police recover truck stolen in 2011

Jackson police say a Chevy Avalanche, reported stolen in Hinds County in 2011, was recovered.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now)- A tip to police landed two men in jail after a raid on a west Jackson house Thursday night. It happened in the 100 block of Alabama Street.

Jackson police say a Chevy Avalanche, reported stolen in Hinds County in 2011, was recovered. Police also found a Tek-9 pistol with an extended clip.

Neighbors complained of heavy foot traffic and drugs in the area.

Andre Devine, 29, and Daniel Kelleston, 35, were arrested and charged with receiving stolen goods and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
